July 10, Chamonix

Notre Dame and the Seine in silhouette before a storm

Hi, everyone,

I have moved again. I am now in Chamonix in the French Alps. (Barb, eat your heart out! The Internet cafe is at the Santa Fe Cafe.) Jim arrived yesterday, seven hours late (Denver to Paris by way of San Francisco, of all places)!! We connected anyway at De Gaulle Aerogare No. 1 even though I first went to No. 2.

In Paris, I did get to go to Giverny and visited Claude Monet's gardens and house. I didn't rent a bicycle as it was raining and I was tired. It was a great day and I was inspired by the serenity of the place. It didn't start to rain hard in the afternoon and I went to lunch and another great museum so I was inside.

On Saturday, I took the day off and visited the Jardin des Plantes (Botanical Garden) and read a novel in bed! Sunday, while waiting for Jim to arrive, I went to the Museum of the Middle Ages and saw the Unicorn tapestries. By chance they are the same color as my living room, so guess what? I bought a pillow cover!

Jim and I did go to the Eiffel Tower but the top was closed due to high winds. Since the second level was very high, it's probably just as well. We had a nice dinner and today took the high speed train (TGV) down to Chamonix. Jim is here with me now and says,

The next morning we took the high speed TGV train to Chamonix. Jim's comment: 'I'm not used to traveling on the ground and seeing clouds in the sky flying by! I was also impressed to be on a train and flying past freely moving traffic on an interstate-like highway.'

Signing off for now, I'll send another message from Switzerland!

Roz and Jim, now traveling together...
