July 16, Zermatt

Hi, Everyone,

The Matterhorn in the morning sun

The suspense is over and, yes, all our parties did meet on July 15th in Zermatt.

We left Saas Fee about 3 pm after our hike and lift ride and arrived in Zermatt at our hotel about 5:30 and Laura and Adrienne were waiting in the lobby. Tim and Anna showed up about 9:30, coming all the way from Paris to meet us. They had just arrived in Europe on the 11th. So all six of us were, eating and drinking and catching up on news in our hotel room. Luckily, it had more floor space than most we've stayed in and a view of the Matterhorn, except for the clouds! The kids were all staying at a hostel.

But take heart, it cleared up the next day and was beautiful every day in Zermatt and we forgot the rain. The 16th, we took the Gornergrat cog rail which has a fantastic view of five glaciers and the Matterhorn. We walked along the ridge and took too many pictures. We spent all day up there just marveling at the views. Jim and Tim and Anna hiked up to the top of a lift and took it back to the Gornergrat.

In the evening after Gornergrat,
I treated everyone to a Fondue dinner.

The Matterhorn the next day with NO CLOUDS, NO RAIN!

On the 17th was our planned big trip. We had reservations (for 6) at a mountain hotel, the Hotel du Trift. We checked out of our hotel(s), leaving our suitcases and the kids' large packs in storage at our hotel.

Yes, that is the Matterhorn!
