Utah - Fall, 2001
Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument
Hole in the Rock Road
Egypt and the Devils Garden

This is the view from the trail head at the place that is called Egypt. The turn off the Hole in the Rock Road for Egypt is 17 miles from the highway. From the turn off to the trail head is 11 miles on what we considered a rough road. There were 14 cars at the trail head, some just regular sedans. It took 1.5 hours from the highway.

Jim walked down to the Escalante river and back. In the picture above the blue line traces his route back. The top circle is the river. At the turn on the left , on the inside, is a white blip which is a party of lamas that Jim was passing.

Jim describes his hike. I had a relaxing day at the top, checking on Jim, reading books, etc.

Devils Garden is described as an "extraordinary place of natural beauty." Jim and I wandered among the hoodoos for about half an hour. The pictures below are from Devils Garden.
